Eating foods low in carbs doesn’t have to be boring. There is a lot of variety out there for natural fat burning low carb foods. Many people these days that are on a diet look for foods that have less carbohydrate content as they believe that it will help shift the weight sooner, and it can.
Generally speaking foods low in carbs are those that are totally natural. Think of the caveman days – do you think they had breads, pastas, cakes, sugars, fast foods, etc?
Probably not – however, that said, there are some entirely natural foods that are very high in carbs too, but general rule of thumb is if it has been refined or processed, it’s high n carbs.
Here is a brief list of foods low in carbs –
Eat your veges!
All green vegetables (in fact the greener the better for vitamin and mineral content), Spinach, Asparagus, Lettuce, Bok choy, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Celery, Cucumber, Cabbage – Green, red, or Chinese, Mushrooms, Sweet or hot peppers, Yellow summer squash, Zucchini, Beetroots, Carrots, Onions, Watercress, Avocados, Radish, brussell sprouts
Most veges are extremely nutritional and low in carbs, however there are some exceptions to this rule, such as potatoes, parsnip and pulses which are quite high in carbs. However supplementing these vegetables for things like bread or pasta is a much healthier option.
Make fruit an occasional treat
Nearly all fruits are very high in a natural sugar called fructose which means that fruit are high in carbs. However, eating a piece of fruit per day will not harm your fat loss efforts and may even increase your metabolism, by providing you with essential vitamins and minerals.
Boost your metabolism with Protein
Egg whites, chicken turkey breast, lean red meat. fresh fish such as. Sardines, Anchovies, Chilean sea bass, Trout, Salmon, Mackerel, Shellfish, such as shrimp, crab, clams, oysters, and lobster. If you need it protein powder to supplement. Flavor meats with any herbs and spices as these are also natural and low carb.
Essential fats and oils for a healthy heart
Any unsaturated fats such as olive oils, flax seed, canola, sunflower are all low carb and help the blood and circulation to flush toxins from the system. All nuts and seed have the same function, but as with any fat, so much of these can also be harmful. Aim for 1 – 2 tablespoons per day.
Eating foods low in carb can be beneficial for people trying to lose weight but I wouldn’t recommend going on a completely no carb diet, or sticking to a completely low carb diet (i.e. no grains) for more than 3 days consecutively, as it’s carbs that is the primary source of brain fuel. This is not an exhaustive list of foods low in carbs, there are many more foods that fit the category out there.
